Brian qualified in medicine in Glasgow and spent the early years of his career in the RAF Medical Branch. Initially he trained as a general practitioner but returned to hospital practice as an obstetrician and gynaecologist after 6 years in primary care. During 20 years as a consultant Brian has worked in the NHS in Scotland and England and has experience of private medical practice. He was RCOG Clinical Tutor for many years as well as a trained educational supervisor and appraiser. Brian became involved in local and regional BMA activities and was an LNC Chair for two terms. As a GMC Associate he dealt with specialist registration appeals and also acted as a complaints advisor to the Healthcare Commission (now CQC) for many years. 


Brian held a number of hospital management positions including Clinical Director, Trust Revalidation Lead and interim Medical Director. He has a keen interest in the quality and safety of patient care and its relationship with the professional behaviour and performance of NHS doctors. Brian joined NCAS in 2015.
